Inside these historic premises, opened in 1899, your guide will introduce The Perth Mint’s world-class exhibition and its mesmerising journey of gold discovery. You’ll encounter extraordinary gold nuggets, touch a large bullion bar, and see some of the most famous coins and medals ever made in Australia. Pride of place on entry goes to the One Tonne Gold Coin, a colossal 99.99% pure gold coin. With an intrinsic value of more than AUD 90 million, it won the title of the ‘largest gold coin’ by Guinness World Records. Unique examples of Western Australia’s gold and silver heritage, ‘King Henry’ and ‘The Karratha Queen’ are two of the largest and most valuable precious metal specimens in the world. Your guide will then present a live gold pour in the original melting house.
Explore The Perth Mint Shop before departing. Located in heritage rooms once used to receive gold deposits from prospectors, today’s polished interior offers bullion bars and coins, as well as many of Australia’s most precious natural treasures, including nugget, opal, and pearl jewellery.
Of unique interest, the Pink Diamond Room is dedicated to spectacular pieces featuring Argyle Pink Diamonds™, the increasingly rare and sought-after gemstones from Western Australia’s Kimberley region.
