KBS returns to Australia in 2024

[21.11.2023]

For the first time in more than a decade, the Kettil Bruun Society Symposium returns to Australia, with the 2024 annual symposium to be held from May 27-31 in Fremantle/Walyalup. The Fremantle area is called Walyalup in the local Indigenous Nyoongar language, meaning place of the walyo or woylie, a small brush-tailed bettong or kangaroo rat.

Located 30 minutes south of Perth, Western Australia’s capital, Fremantle/Walyalup was chosen as both a popular destination for international and interstate visitors and an ideal venue for a 5-day conference, providing user-friendly and historic venues with myriad accommodation and dining options.

“As always, the aims of KBS are to promote and discuss social and epidemiological research that fosters a comparative understanding of the social aspects of alcohol use and alcohol problems, and to promote a spirit of international cooperation,” Organising Committee Chair Michael Livingston said.

NDRI Director Professor Simon Lenton added: “KBS 2024 will be hosted by Curtin University’s National Drug Research Institute (NDRI). With the Institute’s Alcohol Policies and Strategies program being recognised internationally and Fremantle being a popular destination for local, interstate and overseas visitors, NDRI enthusiastically raised its hand to bid to host the 2024 KBS event.”

The 49th Annual Alcohol Epidemiology Symposium of the Kettil Brunn Society is supported by Business Events Perth and the Mental Health Commission of Western Australia.

Registration and the Call for Abstracts will open soon via the 2024 conference website at www.kbs2024perth.org. To join the mailing list and be notified, email kbs2024perth@gmail.com .
